Transparency of Fees

MJP solicitors mission statement is to ‘make justice possible...’

To achieve this for client, we recognise that need to provide an excellent quality of service at an affordable cost, applying for legal aid where available.

MJP solicitors charge their fees in the following way:-

1. We do not charge you any fees for initial diagnostic advice about your legal matter (usually 30- 60 mins) [free initial advice)
2. In every case, we will ascertain whether you are entitled to Legal Aid.
3. In most cases, you will be required to provide financial information to support an application for Legal Aid which must be provided promptly.
4. We will only charge fees to you if we have agreed or notified the fees in writing with you in advance. (no surprises)
5. We may request information about source of funds paid by you for Legal fees.
6. We calculate the fees to be charged by reference to the ‘client care letter’ (or terms of engagement letter) which refers to a unique file number (UFN) for one matter.
7. If fees agreed have been requested and have not been paid, we will not continue to act for you (unless we have agreed to do so in writing).
8. We will advise you about the cost of any disbursements or expert fees where the firm is incurring these costs on your behalf (barristers fees, medical reports, travel and any sums paid to a third party).
9. Where it is no possible to identify fees to be incurred, we will explain to you risks involved and provide any estimate in writing.
10. If you are unhappy or dissatisfied with the service received or fees that have been charged, you can raise the matter as a ‘dissatisfaction or complaint’ (see Complaints).
